Transformation and Empowerment

Transformation & Empowerment at GIBB
GIBB is a proudly South African firm wholly owned by staff that embraces the tenets of sustainable transformation, diversity and inclusiveness. At GIBB we believe that sustainable transformation is beyond mere compliance. It’s about winning the hearts and minds of all our people and our communities, and enabling our country to gain strength through diversity. We are fully invested in the national business landscape, and the well-being and development of our own people and communities.

GIBB holds a Level Two BBBEE Contributor Rating and a 125% Procurement Recognition Level, qualifying GIBB as a Value Adding Enterprise. In accordance with our status as a Value-Adding Enterprise, our Level 2 rating translates into a 156.25% procurement recognition level for our clients. This means that our clients can claim R1.56 as their preferential procurement spend for every Rand spent for all services procured  from GIBB.

GIBB’s local ownership is unparalleled in a sector characterised by an increasing presence of multi-national engineering firms. This offers the firm a unique differentiation amongst South African engineering consulting firms in addition to its undoubted credentials in designing world class infrastructure projects. GIBB’s commitment to BBBEE is under-pinned by its BBBEE policy.

Our BBBEE initiatives aim to:
• Continue to transform our firm and employee profile at every level, as per our employment equity plan, to reflect the demographic representation of South Africa across race and gender; and
• Create capacity in our broader industry, through promoting and investing in education and skills development, capacity creation through preferential procurement and enterprise development and joint ventures

During the year ended 28 February 2014, GIBB spent R4,261,398.27 to provide opportunities for further education, learning and development activities.

Learnerships
During the 2013 period, we have been successful in employing 17 learners, to the cost of R604,545.21 and assisted them in qualifying for their respective National Diplomas. 100% of these learners were from previously disadvantaged communities. This investment is also part of our continuous effort to establish and maintain a pipeline of talent for GIBB, resulting in a number of learners gaining permanent employment at GIBB.

External Bursaries
During the 2013 period, we invested R1,360,449.47 in bursary opportunities for deserved learners, as part of our initiatives to establish a continuous talent pipeline for GIBB and the engineering industry. Our external bursary holders, of which we have maintained a 88% PDI ratio, have to date achieved close to a 100% pass and permanent employment ratio at GIBB.

Preferential Procurement
Each supplier is vetted through a rigorous internal system to determine their ‘Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment’ status;
1. GIBB will strive to provide competitive opportunities with an emphasis on promoting emerging black owned suppliers.
2. GIBB will conduct economically rational procurement of competitive goods and services that meet its business needs by selecting suppliers based on quality, price, delivery times, and reliability in a comprehensive manner.
3. GIBB will conduct procurement in a manner that takes into consideration the environment and the socio-economic imperatives prevalent in our country in order to effectively contribute to society.

Enterprise Development
